We have a plethora of resources dedicated to Americans seeking medical tourism to answer your questions and address your concerns. From safety and pricing to internationally recognized providers and cultural norms, (americanhealthtourism.org) is a one stop shop for all information an American looking for treatment abroad could need. Our goal is to help Americans find safe and affordable care overseas.
The Association also advocates on the behalf of Americans seeking medical care abroad by collaborating with foreign providers, non-profit organizations, and governmental agencies. We promote quality, safety, and transparency ensuring Americans get care comparable to that found here in the US, but with the reduced costs and wait times that can be found abroad.
One key area of focus for us is equitable access to information and resources without for-profit third party middlemen. Many patients end up utilizing the services of medical tourism agencies or agents which receive fees and commissions based on the number of patients they refer to a foreign provider. While common abroad, such relationships run afoul of anti-kickback and anti-patient brokering laws in the US. These laws are in place to protect patients as fees and commissions to third parties may incentivize them to refer a patient to the highest bidder rather than to the best fit provider that will meet the patient’s needs.
Even many online resource and directory sites are medical tourism agencies in disguise, gathering patient info, then collecting fees from providers. Americanhealthtourism.org was designed to combat this practice by providing transparent and ethical information on all providers and countries.
*The Association self-finances its efforts by generating fees through consulting services, membership dues, and advertising revenue.
